Two women have been arrested following the safe recovery of a toddler who went missing with her babysitter from her house in Kildare yesterday.

One of the arrested women was released tonight and a file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. The second woman is still being held at Newbridge Garda Station.

Gardaí found the child safe and well in a shopping centre in Portlaoise, along with her babysitter. Both were brought to Portlaoise Garda station.

A Garda spokesman told ireland.comthey were picked up in the town at about 1.15 p.m. by a patrol car, acting on a call from a member of the public who recognised the pair from a news report.

The parents of 20-month-old Savanna McNally reported her missing along with her 19-year-old babysitter when they returned to their home at 4.30 p.m and found both were gone.

Gardaí searched through last night but were unable to find either the child or the teenager.

Savanna has a kidney condition which needs daily medical attention.
