Two youths charged with the manslaughter of a man who died after an assault in north Dublin on St Patrick’s Day last year were served with books of evidence yesterday and returned for trial.
Joseph Connolly suffered head injuries following a dispute outside a pharmacy on Ballymun Road, in Ballymun, on March 17th, 2011. The 48-year-old, who was single and from Poppintree, Ballymun, was taken by ambulance to the Mater hospital. He was then transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where his condition deteriorated overnight and he died the following afternoon.
A 17-year-old schoolboy, who cannot be named because he is a minor, and Ryan Greene (19), of Knowth Court, Poppintree, were charged at the Dublin Children’s Court with unlawfully killing Mr Connolly.
The pair appeared again at the Children’s Court yesterday, where they were served with books of evidence. Judge Ann Ryan made an order sending them forward for trial to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. They were granted legal aid and remanded on bail.
