Two men suspected of being leading members of the "Real" IRA were still being questioned by gardaí in Limerick last night. The two men, aged 33 and 35, were arrested on Thursday night in the Ballysimon area of Limerick.
Their car was stopped at 7.45pm following a Garda surveillance operation. A package containing a firearm and ammunition was found inside the car.The weapon was sent to Dublin for examination by Garda ballistic experts yesterday.
Last night the two men were still being questioned at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick city where they are being held under Section 30 of The Offences Against the State Act.
They can be held for up to 72 hours.
