LONDON – Two people have been reported killed in an explosion at a Chevron oil refinery at Pembroke in Wales yesterday, according to the BBC. “We have received reports in the last few minutes of two fatalities at the Chevron plant,” a BBC television reporter said.
The local fire service said earlier there had been an explosion and fire at the refinery but had no information on casualties.
Television pictures showed a pall of black smoke rising from the sprawling refinery complex. The BBC said witnesses had seen a fireball and smoke at the refinery.
Last night Chevron confirmed that an incident occurred at the Pembroke refinery. The fire had been extinguished and the company was in the process of accounting for all personnel, it said. – (Reuters)
