Two Limerick city men were further remanded at Limerick District Court yesterday, charged with criminal damage to the grave of Det Garda Jerry McCabe, who was shot dead during the robbery of a post office van in Adare last year.

Mr James Dundon (21) and Mr Mark Connery (24), both of O'Malley Park, Southill, are charged with damaging the headstone belonging to Garda McCabe's widow, Ann, at Mount St Oliver Cemetery, and with riotous and violent behaviour on the same occasion.

Mr Dundon was remanded in custody until January 30th with consent to bail of £500 as a personal surety, and an independent surety of £2,250. Mr Connery, who was refused bail, was also remanded in custody until January 30th.

A third man, Mr Melvin McNamara (17), also of O'Malley Park, was charged in connection with the same offences at a special sitting of Nenagh Court late last night. He was remanded in custody to January 30th.
