Two people have been killed on the roads overnight.
In the first incident, a woman passenger in her thirties was killed when the car she was travelling in crashed near Portarlington, Co Laois.
A Garda spokesman said the driver appeared to have lost control. The incident happened at around 12.15 am two miles outside the town along the road to Ballybrittas.
The driver’s condition is unknown and the dead woman has not yet been named.
A male pedestrian, also thought to be in his thirties, was killed when a car hit him as he was walking along the Naas dual carriageway near City West at 2.15 am.
The man, who has yet to be identified by gardaí, was taken to Tallaght General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the car was arrested after the incident on suspicion of drunk driving.
