Gardaí in Mayo are investigating a road traffic crash in which a pedestrian was killed yesterday. Another pedestrian was killed early this morning in Co Donegal.
The 38-year-old man died after being struck by a car on the N59 at Quignalecka, Ballina, Co Mayo, at about 10.30pm.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Mayo General Hospital.
Gardaí are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to contact them at Ballina Garda station on 096 20560. The road has now reopened after a Garda examination.
Elsewhere, an 18-year-old pedestrian was killed in Bundoran at around 12.10am after being struck by a lorry on the main street.
The victim was taken to Sligo General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The street was closed for examination but is now open. Any witnesses are asked to contact gardaí at Bundoran on 071 9841203.
From Friday, March 13th, to Tuesday, March 17th, gardaí dealt with eight road-related deaths, compared to three for the same period last year; 346 incidents of suspected drink driving; seven collisions involving serious injury; and 72 incidents of dangerous driving.
In March to date, there has been 21 road-related deaths so far, compared to 19 for March last year. The total number of fatalities on the roads so far this year 55.
