TWO MEN have appeared in court in connection with the seizure of €1 million worth of drugs and a stash of guns and ammunition.
The men were brought before a special sitting of Clonmel District Court yesterday.
Robert Kennedy (21), Oakland Drive, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, was charged with possession of two shotguns at Mary Street, Clonmel, between April 1st and April 23rd. Errol O’Brien (38), Wolfe Tone Street, Clonmel, was charged with possession of 14kg of amphetamine with intent for sale or supply at Bianconi Drive, Clonmel, between April 23rd and 25th.
Both men were arrested following a series of planned raids by gardaí in Clonmel town last week.
Insp Kevin Bowen of Clonmel Garda station made an application for Mr Kennedy to be remanded in custody due to the serious nature of the offences.
Det Garda Dan Quinlan told Judge Terence Finn that a number of other people had been arrested in connection with the raids.
Judge Finn refused Mr Kennedy bail and remanded him in custody to appear before Clonmel District Court on May 5th.
Det Garda Séamus Moran told the court that Mr O’Brien had replied he was guilty when charged with three counts of possession of drugs worth more than €280,000.
Judge Finn remanded Mr O’Brien in custody with consent to bail to appear at Clonmel District Court on May 5th.
