Doping in Italian football has reared its ugly head again after two more Serie A players became the latest players to fail dope tests, the Italian press reported today.
Parma confirmed that its defender Stefano Torrisi was one of the players. He tested positive for banned steroid nandrolone after the Parma v Bologna match on April 1st.
"Parma confirms it has received notification from the Federation (FIGC) that its player Stefano Torrisi has given a non-negative test result for nandrolone," said a club statement.
"Parma will await the result of the second sample with serenity."
The other player to test positive plays for Bari, who last week were relegated to the second division.
Although the Italian press has named the supposed subject of the test there is as yet no official confirmation of his identity.
The Bari player tested positive for a painkiller and it is thought unlikely that he will be banned.
However, the Torrisi case becomes the latest to be added to a growing list in the calcio - three players have already been given 16-month bans for testing positive for nandrolone this season although all are appealing.
