Two men have appeared in a Monaghan court in connection with the seizure of drugs with a street value of €25 million in France last month.
The two were remanded in custody when they appeared at the District Court in Ballybay, on charges of conspiring with others, not before the court, to bring a consignment of drugs into the country.
Mr Michael Howard (33) from Knocktoran, Co Limerick, and Mr Morgan McGrath (31) from Breansha, Co Tipperary, each faced charges of contravening the Misuse of Drugs Act by conspiring to unlawfully import controlled drugs contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations between August 1st and the 31st last.
They were arrested in Co Limerick and Co Tipperary at the weekend and questioned at Castleblayney and Carrickmacross Garda stations under the Drug Trafficking Act.
Both men made separate bail applications, through their solicitors, each claiming they operated businesses in their own areas.
Mr Howard claimed in court he operated a small plant-hire business and employed three people. Mr McGrath said he had a small haulage business and was also involved in plant hire.
Judge Flann Brennan refused the applications and remanded the two accused in custody to a further sitting at Cloverhill Court in Dublin, next Tuesday.
