Two men were killed tonight and several more people injured when an express bus collided with two cars in Co Antrim.
The crash occured on the main road between Belfast and Larne, close to the village of Ballynure.
The two men killed in the crash are believed to have been in their 40s. Both deaths were in the same car, a PSNI spokesman said.
They have not yet been named by police, but it is thought they may be foreign migrant workers.
The driver of the second car and several passengers on the bus were injured and taken to hospital.
They were all treated in the Antrim Hospital and none was believed to have conditions which were life threatening, said the PSNI spokesman.
The road - the main route between Belfast and the busy ferry port of Larne - was closed to all traffic and was expected to remain so for a considerable time, the PSNI said.
Local Councillor Paul Girvan, who visited the scene shortly after the crash, said it was horrific.
“It’s an extremely dangerous part of that road, we’ve had a number of fairly near accidents there,” he said.
The crash happened on a part of the road which remains single carriageway and Cllr Girvan said: “This just makes it all the more important to get the dualling of the A8 completed.”
