Two men have been jailed for 12 years each for their part in an attempt to import drugs worth €22.5 million.
At the Circuit Criminal Court in Monaghan today, Michael Howard from Knocktoran, Co Limerick, and Morgan McGrath of Bransha, Co Tipperary, were sentenced.
The men had both pleaded guilty before Judge Matthew Deery to charges of conspiring to import drugs between August 1st and 31st 2002.
The charges related to an attempt to import 591,180 Ecstasy tablets, 602,000 temazipan tablets, 132 kilos of amphetamine, 48 kilos of heroin, and 198 kilos of cannabis resin.
