TWO Limerick city men have been charged in connection with last week's damage to the gravestone of Det Garda Jerry McCabe, who was murdered at Adare, Co. Limerick, last June.
Mr Mark Connery (24), of O'Malley Park, Southill, appeared at a special sitting of the District Court at Nenagh on Saturday night arising out of the desecration. He was remanded in custody until Thursday on two counts of criminal damage on January 8th and 9th and January 11th and 12th.
He was formally charged with riotous and violent behaviour at Mount St Oliver Cemetery, Rathbane, contrary to Section 2 of the Ecclesiastical Court Jurisdiction Act 1860, between 1 p.m. on January 11th and the same time on January 12th.
He was also charged with damaging a headstone belonging to Mrs Anne McCabe or with intending to damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property the damaged contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Damage Act 1991.
And at a special court in Limerick last evening, Mr James Dundon (21), of O'Malley Park, South Hill, was similarly charged.
He was remanded in custody to the Limerick City Court on January 23rd with consent to bail of £500 and independent surety of £2,250.
