Ankara - A suicide bomber killed himself and at least one policeman yesterday in an attack on a police building in Istanbul that left five others injured, officials said.
The identity of the assailant, who died at the spot, was not immediately known but authorities said they suspected him to be a member of an extreme left-wing group.
A policeman was killed in the attack, which occurred in the police regional headquarters in Sisli district, on Istanbul's European side, Istanbul police chief Kazim Abanoz said, according to Anatolia news agency. Civilians and policemen were among the injured. The NTV news channel said a third person died in the attack, but no official confirmation was available.
