An explosion struck a warehouse at a Nairobi, Kenya airport today mainly used by tourists and aid workers, injuring two customs workers, Kenya's information minister said.

Information Minister Raphael Tuju said there were no fatalities in the late-afternoon blast at Wilson Airport, southwest of the city centre.

"It wasn't a bomb," Tuju told reporters at the airport. "The preliminary information we have is that it came from a customs bonded warehouse. The explosion at the one-story building tore roof tiles off and shattered wooden beams.

"We believe there must have been some flammable material," Mr Tuju said.

He said the two injured people were taken to the hospital but he had no details on their condition. Police sealed off the airport.

Wilson is much smaller than Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the main air hub in the Kenyan capital.
