A man and woman were arrested this morning in relation to the murder of two soldiers in the North and the attempted killings of five others.

Sappers Patrick Azimkar (21), from London and Mark Quinsey (23) from Birmingham were shot dead in a Real IRA attack outside Massereene Barracks, Antrim, in March.

They were the first soldiers to be murdered in Northern Ireland in 12 years.

The man (39) was arrested in Coalisland, Co Tyrone and the woman (55) was detained in west Belfast as part of a search operation, according to the PSNI. They are being held at the serious crimes suite in Antrim police station.

Another man was released yesterday in relation to the murders. Two other men have been charged.
