Two men are being  held by gardai in Cork today following the seizure of 20kgs herbal cannabis worth an estimated €240,000.

Gardaí searched a house in Dillon’s Court last night and discovered the drugs.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and taken to Mayfield Garda station where he is being questioned under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act, 1996.

In a follow up operation, gardaí arrested a man in his 40s in the Gurranebraher area. He is being held at Gurranebraher Garda station under the same legislation.

Gardaí believe the drugs were destined for the Cork market and the seizure is part of an ongoing operation by the Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad against cannabis dealing in the city.

Gardaí seized €600,000 worth of cannabis in the Glanmire area earlier this month when they stopped and searched a car.
