Gardaí in Cork have arrested two men for questioning about two separate attacks on women in the city last month.
Officers arrested the two men in their late teens and early 20s at addresses in the Mallow and Kanturk areas shortly before 8am.
They were arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and brought to the Bridewell and Togher Garda stations.
Detectives plan to question them about two separate attacks on women in Cork in the early hours of December 3rd last.
A woman in her 30s was attacked by two men in the grounds of the Church of the Holy Ghost at Dennehy’s Cross near Wilton at around 3.30am.
The woman was the subject of a serious sexual assault by the two men, who had followed her out from the city along Western Road.
Gardaí believe the same two men were involved in an earlier attack on a woman in her 20s near the Mercy University Hospital.
The woman was followed by two men on the Mardyke before they attacked her at the Mercy, hitting her with a bottle.
The woman suffered injuries to her head in the attack at about 2.45am on December 3rd.
The men arrested this morning are held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act which allows gardaí hold suspects for up to 24 hours.
