There were no signs of forced entry at his home, and gardaí believe the killer, armed with a handgun, let himself into the property through an unlocked door and murdered Mr Murray as he lay in bed, most likely on the night of March 17th.

Gardaí believe he had been involved in a number of fights in the weeks prior to his death. They also believe he was in a dispute some time ago over a property deal.

Mr Murray was originally from the Springfield estate in Templeogue, where he still ran a small car garage.

He was not suspected of any involvement in gangland crime.

One of the two men arrested today is aged 49. He is being held at Terenure Garda station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

The second (47) is being detained under Section 30, of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at Rathmines Garda station.
