A Derry man in his 50s is critically ill in hospital after being assaulted in his home at Meenan Drive early on Saturday morning.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the attack. One has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, and is due to appear in court in Limavady today. The RUC says the incident is not believed to be sectarian or to involve paramilitaries. A mob of youths threw stones and a petrol-bomb at firefighters dealing with a house fire in a nationalist part of Derry early yesterday morning. The petrol-bomb failed to ignite and no one was injured.
A 34-year-old west Belfast man is to appear in court in Belfast today on charges of arson. The charges relate to a fire which destroyed a fruit-and-vegetable shop on the Lisburn Road early on Saturday morning.
The Orange hall in Donaghmore, Co Tyrone, was slightly damaged in an arson attack carried out in the past few days, according to the RUC. The arsonists got in through the roof after removing tiles. The fire they set burned itself out and only minor damage was caused.
