A man and woman are due in court in the North this morning after being charged in connection with the injury of three police officers outside Belfast early yesterday.

The officers were injured, one seriously, when they were attacked while investigating a road accident on the Upper Hightown Road at Glengormley.

One officer suffered a broken wrist and was kept in hospital for surgery. Two other officers suffered bruising and other injuries.

Police said the man and woman, both 37, are due to appear in Belfast Magistrates Court on charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assault on police, resisting arrest, obstruction and disorderly behaviour.

The man was also charged with attempted criminal damage, and the woman with various motoring offences.
