GARDAI are treating as suspicious two fires in Dublin city centre at two separate flat complexes.

Four people two adults, a 13 month old boy and a 13 year old boy were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at the doorway of their flat in York Street flats off St Stephen's Green at about 4 a.m. yesterday.

The couple and their two children were alerted by neighbours and escaped. They were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation but their condition was described as not serious.

Fire damage was limited to the doorway and entrance to the flat. A smell of petrol suggested that the fire might have been started deliberately, according to gardai.

The second fire occurred on Sunday night at St Joseph's flat complex off Buckingham Street. The residents were not home at the time. Again, neighbours were alerted by smoke and the fire brigade was called. The flat was destroyed by the fire, and according to gardai, fire officers believed that the blaze may have been started maliciously.
