Two people were killed in separate road incidents over the weekend.
A 32-year-old man died when he crashed his on the N6 at Tyrrellspass, Co Westmeath, yesterday morning.
The incident happened at 8.30am. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to the mortuary in Mullingar.
The N6 between Tyrellspass and Kilbeggan was closed for a time yesterday morning as a result of the incident.
An 84-year-old woman was killed on Saturday evening on the outskirts of Ballinrobe, Co Mayo when she was struck by a car while returning home from Saturday evening Mass.
The woman was named yesterday as Margaret (Rita) Conroy, with an address at The Demesne, Lough Mask.
Ms Conroy, a married woman with a large, grown-up, family, was fatally injured at about 8.30 pm.
Minutes earlier she had alighted from a car which had dropped her near her home.
Driving conditions were poor at the time, according to local gardaí, due to strong winds and heavy rain.
This brought the number of people killed on Irish roads this year to 310, 32 less than for the equivalent period last year.
