An Israeli warplane has fired a missile at a car in Gaza City, killing at least two people and wounding 25.
It was the first air strike in Gaza since the beginning of the war in Iraq.
The bodies were taken to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.
Women and children were reportedly among the casualties.
Residents said two Israeli F-16 fighter planes circled low over Gaza City, breaking the sound barrier, in the minutes before the air strike.
The attack was launched on the Zeitoun district, known as a stronghold of the militant Hamas group.
Israel has carried out many similar attacks during 30 months of Palestinian-Israeli violence, targeting suspected Palestinian militants. Palestinians and human rights groups have condemned the practice.
The Israeli military refused to comment.
