Two men appeared in court today charged in connection with the seizure of heroin valued at up to €180,000 in Limerick.
The drugs were found by gardaí near the Moyross housing estate during a garda operation last Friday.
Three men - aged 40, 20 and 18 - were arrested following the seizure
Two were charged at a special sitting of Limerick District Court today.
James O’Keefe (20) Moylish Crescent, Ballynanty and Adam Llewelyn (18), Craeval Park, Moyross were charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin for the purpose of sale or supply at Delmege Demense, Knocklisheen Road, Limerick on October 15th.
Det Viv Downey and Gda Mark McGauley of Henry Street Garda station gave evidence of arresting and formally charging the two men.
Judge Tom O’Donnell both of the accused men in custody until Tuesday.
Solicitor Sarah Ryan told the court she would be making bail applications on behalf of her clients at the next court hearing.
Meanwhile, Judge O’Donnell granted gardaí a further 72 hour to question the 40-year-old man arrested as part of the same inquiry.
Chief Supt Dave Sheehan told the court 12 gardaí were involved in the investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and conducting follow up searches. He said the extension period to the custody was required to properly conduct the inquiry.
