Oil and gas exploration firm Tullow Oil said today that it had discovered oil in its Uganda block.
The company said it had made the find in the Wahrindi North fault block, and added that the Kasamene-3 and Kasamene-3A wells in the Butiaba region of Uganda Block 2 have successfully delineated the extent of oil in the Kasamene field.
The Kasamene-3 well was drilled down-dip and 2.2 kilometres to the southwest of the Kasamene-1 discovery well. This deviated well was drilled to a total depth of 1,109 metres and results of logging confirmed some
Drilling uncovered 10 metres of oil pay within a 35 metre thick reservoir section of the Kasamene field, and the company said pressure data confirmed the pay was in communication with the up-dip Kasamene-1 well, extending the column height of these reservoirs to over 100 metres.
A second well, Kasamene-3A, was drilled to explore the Wahrindi North fault block, and encountered over 15 metres of oil pay.
"This takes us a significant step towards first oil in Uganda, which is expected from the Kasamene field in 2011," said exploration director Angus McCoss.
