BRITISH tourists prefer the delights of Dublin to a Dutch treat, according to UK travel figures published yesterday.
Numbers flocking across the Irish Sea on short break trips have helped Dublin replace Amsterdam as number two in the league of most visited cities, after Paris, according to holiday company Crystal Cities. The huge growth in Dublin traffic has led to the company introducing Cork and Kinsale in its brochures as alternative attractions.
Paris remains the number one city destination for Britons, and New York has risen to fourth place. According to the Crystal Cities product director, Mr Alan Betty, "Dublin has gone from strength to strength to pip Amsterdam for second place, and forward bookings indicate that this growth pattern is set to continue into 1997.
The Crystal Top 10 is: 1-Paris, 2-Dublin, 3-Amsterdam, 4-New York, 5-Rome, 6-Prague, 7-Vienna, 8-Bruges, 9-Budapest, 10-Venice.
