The Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) executive last night voted overwhelmingly to accept the decision of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to take part in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness. The TUI had previously voted against participation and used its 11 votes at congress against the deal.
The TUI president, Mr Joe Carolan, said there was no contradiction in the union's stance, commenting that the TUI "always accepted that it would be bound by congress".
