Zimbabwe opposition leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai has rejected talks with President Robert Mugabe.
Speaking after a meeting of the national council of his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Mr Tsvangirai dismissed speculation he might enter a government of national unity with Mugabe.
"We arrived at the conclusion that the objective conditions do not exist for meaningful discussion because ZANU-PF [Mr Mugabe's party] is embarking on mass retribution against our members in the rural areas.
"We are beginning to have a refugee situation at the head office and our offices throughout the country", said Mr Tsvangirai, who has labelled last week's disputed presidential election as "daylight robbery".
South African President Mr Thabo Mbeki and Nigerian President Mr Olusegun Obasanjo met Mr Mugabe and Mr Tsvangirai separately yesterday to propose that they form a coalition government or co-operate politically to address the country's economic and political crisis.
