A South African long distance lorry driver was today charged with dangerous driving after a father and daughter were killed in a road crash.

Sheraaj Kramer, 31, appeared before a special sitting of Cavan District Court over the double fatal accident near Belturbet, County Cavan.

Fiona Ronaghan, 33, from Teeboy and her 60-year-old father John Gillece, from Kinawley in Fermanagh, were both killed in the smash on the N3 last Thursday.

The accident occurred at a dangerous stretch of road at Corporation Lands when a four wheel drive vehicle was in collision with an articulated truck.

Mr Kramer, who has an address in Drogheda, County Louth, was granted conditional bail on his own bond of €1,900 with two independent sureties of €2,500 each.

He is due to appear before Belturbet District Court on December 8.

A file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions and officials will also determine if further serious charges will be preferred.
