Former Fine Gael TD and senator Larry McMahon has died at the age of 78
Mr McMahon sat as a TD between 1970 and 1981 and later served as a senator, while holding a seat on Dublin County Council for 30 years.
Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny today paid tribute to Mr McMahon and extended his sympathies to his family
"On behalf of the entire Fine Gael Party, I send our deepest condolences to the family of the late Larry McMahon who passed away last night," he said.
"During his long career as a public representative, Larry McMahon served his constituents with great commitment, both in the Oireachtas and at local authority level.
"He will be warmly remembered by the people of Tallaght in particular for the tremendous work he did on behalf of the community over three decades. He was a man of deep Christian conviction who was never afraid to express his own strong views," Mr Kenny said.
Minister of State at the Department of Health Conor Lenihan also paid tribute to Mr McMahon saying he had served his constituents "with great dignity and decency over a long number of years.
"Even when he retired from public life he worked for his own community of Bohernabreena with passion and impartiality."
