ATTEMPTS are being made to have the Dunnes tribunal investigate the circumstances surrounding the sale by private treaty of state land at Glen Ding Wood to Roadstone Dublin Ltd in 1992. The late Mr Des Traynor was company chairman at the time of the sale.
Mr Frank Corcoran, chairman of the Blessington Heritage Trust, has made a written submission.to the tribunal asking that it inquire as to whether companies other than Dunnes Stores were approached to raise money for the former Taoiseach, Mr Charles Haughey.
However, a statement issued on behalf of Road stone Dublin Ltd said. The apparent attempt to create a connection between Roadstone's purchase of its lands at Blessington and CRH's former chairman, Des Traynor, is a mischievous and spurious attempt to damage Roadstone's reputation.
"As a non-executive chairman, Mr Traynor had, no role in identifying or negotiating any group purchases. It, would appear that this attempt is, part of Mr Corcoran's campaign to frustrate Roadstone's continuing operations, and development plans at its Blessington site. If so, it is contemptible."
