A LARGE group of travellers were ordered by the High Court yesterday to leave a site in Newbridge, Co Kildare, which is to be used as a fairground over Christmas.

The owner of the lands, Baba Exports Ltd, of Ashford House, Tara Street, Dublin, had sought the order to remove Mr John Quilligan, New Bungalow, Roches Road, Rathkeale, Co Limerick, and all others having knowledge of the order being made.

Mr Justice McCracken said the travellers would have to leave the site by tomorrow.

Mr Martin Hayden, counsel for the company, said about 30 caravans, an equal number of vehicles and families making up about 100 people had moved on to the site for Christmas. They had come from Rathkeale, Co Limerick.

He said the site was the old car-park of Irish Ropes and because it had no facilities or amenities, it posed a serious health hazard. A large amount of rubbish had accumulated.

Mr Hayden said he understood that Mr Quilligan had already left the site. Notice of the seeking of the order had been posted on the caravans that remained on the site.
