Robbie Fenlon, an Irish mountain guide, is organising two treks to Nepal, which has some of the world's highest peaks and is famous for its unspoilt villages and ancient monasteries. The Adventure Trek (October 14th to November 13th) is a high-altitude walk for the reasonably fit, while the Cultural Trek (November 18th to December 4th) is a leisurely walk. Both treks are in the famous Khumbu or Everest region and will take trekkers more than 100 miles from the nearest road. Details from 01-2872910.

If you are in the Connemara area, take a cruise on the Connemara Lady around Killary Harbour. The trip up and down the Killary fjord takes about 90 minutes and you might glimpse the dolphins who often visit Killary. The base is Nancy's Point, one mile west of Leenane. Bookings: 01-566736.
