Irish travel agents and tour operators have moved to reassure thousands of holidaymakers in Alicante and Benidorm after eight people were injured in two bombs today.
While no figures were immediately available for the total number of Irish tourists in the area, one of the largest travel agents, Budget Travel, currently has 1,000 clients in Benidorm.
A spokeswoman said: "We do not anticipate cancelling our flights. We have immediately moved to contact our clients in the resorts, to keep them up to date, to reassure them and to urge them to be vigilant."
She said the hotel hit by the bomb in Benidorm was not a property used by Budget Travel, although it is close to some that are.
Asked whether any holidaymakers had sought to cut their trips short, the spokeswoman said she did not believe they had.
"We have not had any requests. Obviously we are going to wait and see what happens and we are liaising with the Department of Foreign Affairs on it," she added.
Budget Travel operates four flights a week to Alicante and transfers holidaymakers from there to hotels and apartments in the nearby resort of Benidorm, one of the most popular resorts in Spain.
The resort is capable of catering for five million tourists each year.
