One of the country’s best-known traditional musicians, PJ Hayes, has died in Co Clare.
Mr Hayes, who was 80-years-old, was a founder and leader for more than 50 years of the Tulla Ceili Band in his native Co Clare.
He died peacefully at lunchtime today at his home in Maghera, near Tulla.
Mr Hayes is survived by his wife, Peggy, daughters, Helen and Ann Marie, and sons, Martin, who is also a traditional musician, and Pat, a Clare county councillor.
