Six members of the Oireachtas have returned from an onerous seven-day trip to Rio de Janeiro. The Joint Committee on Tourism, Sport and Recreation was invited to attend the World Tourism Organisation's international forum in Brazil. The committee's chairperson, Breeda Moynihan-Cronin made a 20-minute presentation to the forum on the subject of rural tourism.
The Irish delegation also examined sporting facilities in the area, including the national football stadium - the Americana - and went to see the rain forest region outside Rio.
The other participants on this hardship detail were Liam Aylward (FF), Brendan Kenneally (FF), Denis Naughten (FG), Michael O'Kennedy (FF) and Billy Timmins (FG).
