Tourist security and safety will be among the topics for discussion at a major conference on tourism to be held in Dublin Castle as part of Ireland's EU presidency.
The conference titled "Charting Tourism Success" - will also hear delegates discuss issues of competitiveness and sustainability and to chart the future direction of European tourism.
Among the speakers will be Dr Egon Smeral, economist, futurologist who will outline how tourism across Europe will have to adjust to the uncertain geo-political environment. Trends appear to point towards a rising demand for domestic stays or short-haul holidays with a growing demand for a cultural element.
Other speakers at the conference include the EU Commission's Reinhard Klein, hotelier and businessman, Sir Rocco Forte and Mr Tim Smit of the Eden Project will consider competitiveness and sustainability from the perspective of their individual enterprises by presenting their case examples.
Aer Lingus chief executive, Mr Willie Walsh, will discuss the challenge presented by olow cost air travel to traditional flag carriers.
The conference will be opened by Ms Gillian Bowler, chairman, Fáilte Ireland and the Minister for Tourism , Mr O'Donoghue will deliver the closing address.
