ONE further case of BSE was confirmed yesterday by the Department of Agriculture, bringing the total for May to four and 34 this year. The four cases were in Cavan, Monaghan, Tipperary and Wexford.
Under the Department's depopulation programme, 223 other animals on the four farms will be slaughtered.
Earlier this week the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Yates, said the number of cases in the Irish herd, 223 since the disease was first identified in Ireland in 1989, appeared to be declining.
