London - British Tories pushed forward with two gains from Labour in the first elections after their European Parliament poll triumph. They took seats on huge switches in King's Lynn, Norfolk, and Surrey Heath Borough.
This was in line with movements shown in European election, suggesting Conservatives' line on the Euro was not the sole reason for their success. Labour's vote held up at Hollybush, Welwyn Hatfield District, Hertfordshire robbing Tories of the temporary threeseat overall majority on the council they won on May 6th.
Turnout was just under 35 per cent.
