Blantyre - About 20 armed Malawian police yesterday arrested a top opposition figure in connection with an alleged coup plot, his spokesman said.
The police served a warrant of arrest that said Mr Brown Mpinganjira would be charged with treason, after they searched his home in southern Malawi for guns and documents, his spokesman Mr Peter Chupa said. "They found nothing. No guns, no document which could implicate him in treasonable offences," he added.
