Three Mexican amigos who look like they'd nick the hubcaps off your Ford Pinto, Titan could be the Tejano cousins of The Beastie Boys, and Elevator is an uplifting mix of bleepy synths, funky Latin grooves and punk attitude. Titan started life as electro experimentalists Melamina Ponderosa, towering over the underground scene in Mexico City during the early 1990s, and releasing their first EP, Terrodisco, in 1995. Elevator centres on the jumping-bean synths of Emelio Acevedo, with spicy guitar-bass backup from Julian Lede and Jay de la Cueva. Mostly instrumental, with samples and break-beats a-plenty, Elevator makes a fine soundtrack for a tequila-slamming summer party. Expect to hear a lot of this album on ads and movie soundtracks.
