DUBLIN - Doubt has been cast on an Indonesian claim that the burial of an East Timor rebel commander has taken place and that it was attended by his immediate family, David Shanks reports.
Tapol, the London-based Indonesian Human Rights Association, said yesterday that first cousins of Mr David Alex living abroad said his immediate family in the occupied territory "could not possibly have travelled to Dili [the capital] in time to attend a funeral that took place so soon after his alleged death". Tapol said that Indonesia's army was weaving a web of lies".
