Three men appeared in court today charged with assault after a Lithuanian man was attacked while walking along the Royal Canal in North Dublin.
The three, all aged 18, were charged with assault causing harm at Dublin District Court.
Mr Kevin Dunne, Mr Michael Rea and Mr Leigh O'Connell were arrested by gardai hours after the attack and the court was told they made no reply when arrested.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the 48-year-old Lithuanian national was attacked by the side of the canal in the Drumcondra area of the city.
The man suffered serious head and neck injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital.
No addresses were given for the three 18-year-olds and an application for bail is to be heard at a later date. They are believed to be living in health board hostels.
