TWO 83 year old bachelors died in separate fires at their Co Tipperary homes in the early hours of yesterday.
They were Mr John O'Donnell, of Killock, New Inn, and Mr Willie Morrissey, of Clashganny West, Newcastle, Clonmel.
Both men lived alone and gardai do not believe either fire was malicious.
A neighbour of Mr O'Donnell noticed the fire at his home shortly after 9 a.m. on Sunday but it had already, taken hold of the single storey home.
Mr Morrissey died in a fire which broke out at his home about 12 miles from Clonmel. The alarm was raised by his sister in law, Ms Eileen Morrissey, but the house was ablaze by the time a fire tender arrived.
The dead man was a retired farmer.
A 68 year old man died in a fire at his home in Cork at the weekend.
Mr Sean Keane was alone in the house at Lower Oliver Plunkett Street when neighbours raised the alarm at 8.15 p.m. on Friday.
Gardai said yesterday they were still unsure what caused the fire that destroyed one downstairs room. Mr Keane, a widower, is survived by three adult children.
Meanwhile, the pedestrian killed on Saturday after he was struck by a car outside Loughrea has been named as Mr Dominick Foley (79) of Portumna, Co Galway.
