Three east Belfast man were jailed for 2 1/2 years yesterday for handling tobacco products stolen from Belfast docks last year.

They were among eight men arrested on August 27th, 1998, when police raided a disused warehouse at Mallusk in north Belfast and found a missing trailer. The trailer had contained about £1,100,000 worth of cigarettes and other tobacco products.

During the trial of the eight at Belfast Crown Court last month, Robin Thomas Dunbar (37) and Derek Robert Speers (29), both of Sandbrook Park, and Jeremiah Leahy (40), from Beersbridge Road, pleaded guilty to handling the stolen goods. A further charge of theft against them was dropped.
