Three Irishmen have been remanded in custody following an appearance at Belmarsh Magistrates Court to face charges under Britain’s Terrorism Act, 2000.
The three - Mr Fintan Paul O'Farrell (35), Mr Declan John Rafferty (41) and Mr Michael Christopher McDonald (44), all from Co Louth - were extradited from Slovakia to Britain yesterday.
They face five joint charges, including that they "belonged or professed to belong to a proscribed organisation namely the Irish Republican Army".
Each faces three counts under the Terrorism Act, 2000, and two counts under the Criminal Law Act, 1977.
The accused were remanded in custody to Belmarsh Prison and will appear again at the Old Bailey on September 10th.
They were arrested by Slovak police, acting on behalf of Scotland Yard's anti-terrorist branch, on July 5th.
Britain has an extradition agreement with Slovakia that allowed for the three men to be transferred yesterday.
