Three people were seriously injured in a road accident at Kilbride, near Bray, Co Wicklow, late last night. The Garda, Dublin Fire Brigade and an ambulance were called to the scene of the accident shortly after 11 p.m. Both sides of the dual carriageway were blocked until the accident was cleared, a Garda spokesman said. Initial reports suggested the crash between a car and a van was a "head-on" collision.
Meanwhile, four people were killed in separate traffic accidents over the weekend. A 57-year-old man died when he was struck by a van in Cork city yesterday afternoon . The accident occurred on the Southern Road at around 1.30 p.m. The dead man has not been named by the Garda.
Meanwhile in Wexford, Mr Kevin Cantwell (38), from Ballyhoge, Co Wexford, died at Ballybrennan, Enniscorthy, when the car he was driving hit a ditch and turned over just after midnight on Sunday.
Mr Edward Ward (32), from Athy, Co Kildare, was killed when he was hit by a car while walking at Ballycorman, Ballylinan, Co Laois at 3.15 a.m. on Monday morning. And a 72-year-old woman in a wheelchair was killed by a car in Lurgan late on Sunday night. Mrs Josephine Toman was being pushed home by her husband. She died at the scene.
