Three held over Co Offaly shooting

Three people have been arrested in connnection with a shooting at a house in Tullamore, Co Offaly, last night.

Three people have been arrested in connnection with a shooting at a house in Tullamore, Co Offaly, last night.

A woman (24) was struck by pellets when two shots from a shotgun were fired through the window of the house at Chancery Lane in Tullamore.

There were three other people in the house at the time. They were uninjured.

Two men in their 20s were arrested this morning in the Tullamore area and are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. A woman in her 20s, was arrested shortly before 8am.

It is the third gun attack on a house in the town in the past fortnight. Shotguns were used in the two other incidents, which occurred in Arden View and Cluain Darach in Tullamore.

Last Sunday a shot was fired at the door of a house in the Cluain Darach estate in Tullamore. The incident occurred just one week after a shot was fired through the bedroom window of a house in the nearby Arden View estate.

Nobody was injured in the Arden View or Cluain Darach attacks and gardaí are following a number of lines of enquiry in relation to the incidents.

Gardaí are monitoring the situation and have stepped up patrols in the area. They have also mounted a number of armed checkpoints recent days.
