Three men have been arrested following a road crash in Co Limerick last night.

Three men have been arrested following a road crash in Co Limerick last night.

According to gardaí, a man (53) was killed after the car he was driving collided with an SUV at Ahabeg, Ballysimon, on the N24, at about 8.15pm. The occupants of the SUV fled the scene of the collision.

A female passenger in the car was also taken to hospital, although her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Two men in their 40s are being held at Roxboro Road Garda Station. One is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and the other under Section 30 of The Offences Against the State Act.

A third man (38) was arrested this morning and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 2009 at Henry Street Garda Station.

The road at the scene of the crash has reopened after an examination by forensic collision investigators.

Elsewhere, gardaí last night named a man who was killed in a road incident on the Moycullen Road, Galway, on October 3rd. David Kelly (39), Sean Bothar, Monument Road, Galway, was killed when his car hit a wall at about 4.10am.

Mr Kelly, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken to University Galway Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In the North, a woman has died after a two-car crash in Co Tyrone last night. The collision happened at around 5pm, two miles from the Ballygawley roundabout on the Omagh road.

Two men and and another woman were taken to hospital with injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.
